Ik (TS) ben nog even gaan rondneuzen naar ISO standaarden, en ik stuitte op het OSI Reference Model voor network architectures. Deze is door de ISO naar voren gebracht in plaats van TCP/IP, wat we nu hebben. Tanenbaum (in Computer Networks 3rd edition) heeft er dit over te zeggen (OSI): Given the enormous complexity of the model and the protocols, it will come as no surprise that the initial implementations were huge, unwieldy, and slow. Everyone who tried them got burned. It did not take long for people to associate "OSI" with "poor quality." While the products got better in the course of time, the image stuck. In contrast, one of the first implementations of TCP/IP was part of Berkeley UNIX(R) and was quite good (not to mention free).
