truecrypt 7.1a rescue disk fails
I system-encrypted my hdd with Truecrypt 7.1a. No problem there. When changing my password, I made a new Truecrypt Resuce Disc through Truecrypt's menu. Although Truecrypt says it succesfully created and verified the disc, I am unable to start the system with the disc. When doing so a system message reports: "selected device fails to load", I do not have the chance to type my password or anything (no F8 either). When starting my system the usual way (from the hdd) there is no problem. When I re-verify my rescue disc, Truecrypt still calls my disc ok. To complicate matters I must add, that burning the disc through disc-burning software from Microsoft, the disc will always fail to load. If however I use a third party burning software (NCH software), I can use the rescue disc for it seems one day only. The next day the disc which before loaded succesfully, fails again. And this is a repeatable problem, if I create yet again a new disc I get the same problems. I really like to use Truecrypt, but this way, I feel uncomfortable if ever my system would fail to load from hdd, and I would have to recourse to my rescue disc. Anyone with an idea what might be the problem?

I have and external CD/DVD writer connected to one of my computers (it's the only CD/DVD drive I have nowadays). When I burn a data disc and eject, reload and mount it afterwards to verify its content, quite often it takes several mount attempts (in Linux) before the mount succeeds. It seems that the drive itself needs quite some time to read data from the disc to decide what it is before it is available to the OS. If I reload the disc and wait for the drive to stop making noises and only then mount it it always works on the first try. The disc is perfectly ok, the drive needs time to get ready.
Although I don't have any problem booting from that drive it suggests that timing does matter. Perhaps your drive gets ready too late for an impatient boot sequence. Try to access the boot device selection menu (F12 in the BIOS screen, the last time I used it, but that may depend on the manufacturer and on the accuracy of my memory) and delay making a choice until your CD/DVD drive, with the rescue disc in it, stops making noises. Then try to boot from the CD/DVD drive. Does that work?
Ik heb dvd's van een ander (Philips, aha, dat dan weer wel...) merk gekocht, wat me ook de gelegenheid gaf om op lagere snelheid te branden, maar geen succes. Ik heb Windows utility Fix It gebruikt. Die gaf aan een leesprobleem te hebben gehad mbt mijn dvd rom (of herhaalde Fix It alleen maar mijn eigen probleem definitie) en gaf aan dat gefixt te hebben. Direct daarop kon ik wel de TC rescue disc booten, maar de volgende dag helaas niet meer. Ik heb gezocht naar een driver update van mijn Matshita dvd +-rw UJ8E0 ata device, maar ik kan niet eens uitvinden wie de fabrikant is. Ik lees ergens dat dat Panasonic is, maar de link werkt niet niet meer, en op Panasonic kan ik niets over deze dvd device vinden. Bovendien lees ik dat driverupdates voor dvd stations van recente leeftijd helemaal niet nodig zijn. Dus...ja, dus, wat kan ik nu nog doen? Als dit een dead end wordt, dan ga ik de TC iso file op bootable USB zetten, maar dat lijkt op voorhand ook niet zeer eenvoudig, dus als iemand nog een idee voor me heeft, please let me know.
